While I have some artistic inclinations, this is my first time to paint on an actual canvass. On free & easy days, my roommate and I would explore fun and unusual activities to do and this was one of those.
One suggestion was to check out Arteastiq, a chain of outlets that offer social painting and casual dining. For proximity purpose, we chose the outlet at Plaza Singapura after running a series of errands in town.
We were welcomed by other people’s artworks on display. Some included paintings by young local celebrities. Since we didn’t make any advance booking, we walked in 15 minutes before the scheduled painting session at 6pm.
$48 for a 3-hour painting session was pretty reasonable for a package that included a blank canvass, pencil, all sorts of acrylic paint and a set of brushes plus a choice of drink from their menu. A catalogue of patterns and sample paintings were also provided for for added inspiration.

So what did I choose to draw? I picked a stained glass imagery of a dog. I never intended to draw the dog. I simply used it as a guide when laying the patterns and color combinations around the subject. I drew a lion instead.
Why a lion? This powerful animal appeals to me in many ways. To me it symbolizes leadership and I can’t help but remember my favorite characters Aslan of Narnia, Simba: The Lion King and Jesus, The Lion of Judah. They all portray such strong character.
I made mine not as fierce-looking though =)
Hours passed and we had our painting done. At first we were worried that our paintings get smudged as we carry it home. Lo and behold, they had a carton specially made to solve our concerns. No worries!
Two childlike girls came home with happy memories of their “arteastiq” night.
