My Year 2016

2016 may have been a very tough year but it was one of REDEMPTION for me in one aspect – Ironman races (relay and individual, 70.3). It feels great to finally get done away with some unfinished business. But I won’t talk just about that. Let’s have a recap of how my year went.

What happened in 2016 that I can celebrate and thank God for?

  1. January
  • I’ve never skipped the first workweek of the year til this year came. Maximized it by going to Bohol then spending more time with my family back in Manila.
  • Got to share in the leaders’ meeting on “Let It Go, Let Him Plow”
  • Visited St.John’s Island and other Southern Islands of Singapore with Didi the explorer

  1. February
  • Attended Thanyapura Camp by Macca and Clint Kimmins; inspired to see fellow triathletes seek to break through limits
  • Thankful for God’s protection while we were at Port Dickson, Malaysia; there was a robbery at KFC opposite our resort and the victim’s jewelry, passport and money were taken.

  1. March
  • First time to be on board a cruise ship courtesy of Dee’s friend, Joey; loved the performances and the relaxed, ‘elite’ atmospere; Would love to go to places on a real cruise ride in 2017.

  1. April
  • Got to go back to my favorite travel destination, Japan! This time around we went to Osaka and Kyoto. We did nature trip after a fun day at Universal Studios. Will aim to go to Hokkaido next year!

  1. May
  • Ironfriends redeemed ourselves in the Ironman 70.3 Vietnam race. Thank You, Lord! We also got to explore and go jalan-jalan around Danang and Hoi An. Oh, the joys of traveling to new places!

  1. June
  • Started being “independent” since our GM of Sales & Marketing left. I thank God for the valuable deposits of good mentors in my life. They form part of who I am now.
  • Our new MD is now full-fledged after 3 months of transitioning into the role with the former MD. Change management in action! All the more my role became vital in this organization.
  • Interestingly, I didn’t go anywhere this month as I was saving up for mom’s birthday.

  1. July
  • Phenomenal celebration of mom’s 60th birthday with family and friends. The smile on my mother’s face was priceless! It’s like a dream come true for her though it was not that grand. I wish we were complete as a family though. =(
  • One of our long time members in the CG got married after a long journey of being acquaintances to becoming CG mates, to good friends then the best of friends and finally as lovers. Amazed at how God writes and rewrites our life stories.

  1. August
  • Officially finished the Ironman 70.3 Cebu race. Whoohoo!!! Year of redemption indeed!
  • Followed a lot more pro triathletes and well-known preachers on social media (instagram); Their lives really inspire me.

  1. September
  • Majestic trip to New Zealand. Really loved the sites and the people we were with. Felt at home with nature and the warm Filipinos there.
  • September’s my birthday month! This time, I really had meaningful birthday celebrations with Dee, the CG, my family, colleagues and other friends; VIP treatment, too! #awesomenessoverload
  • A month of profitable events despite the market downturn, EQ team still delivered $1.1M in revenue, same as the year before. Cool, right?
  • The presentations of appeal for our leaders’ vindication were made smoothly. Not much drama and stirred up trouble from the media this time. Believing God for their deliverance and total restoration.

10. October

  • The CG bagged most of the awards at the FCG sportsfest. It was more than just an event. It fostered relationships within and provided a way to reach out to new friends.
  • Got a new macbook pro as a gift to myself. Hehehe.. My old one has served me well for more than 6 years. Also scored a genuine Oakley at a good deal!
  • Successful CG retreat in Langkawi: our first time to travel overseas together by plane
  • Rediscovered a lot more about our people in CG, reconnected to God and each other in different ways, everyone’s geared up to rebuild more so in this season

11. November

  • Significant pay increment on my basic salary, adjusted commission tiers and more realistic event targets. Thank You, Lord!
  • Opportunity to give once again to Arise & Build
  • Finally achieved savings target that I’ve been aiming for since 2015.
  • Junior core in the CG were called for. Thank God for people who keep on rising up.
  • Jen and Leo came back to Singapore, blessed with good compensation and great work environment in their new companies.

12. December

  • Had a very happening Christmas party and thanksgiving with the CG. This year’s celebrations have levelled up in experience with the help of Dee and our creative bunch who stepped up the plate. Thank you!
  • I was home for Christmas again! Did a surprise visit, with the hopes that my family would appreciate me for me and not just what I do for them. For that, I didn’t really splurge that much compared to last year.
  • Got to spend time with my uncles, aunts and cousins from Quiozon and Nunez side. We not only ate together but played games. How I wish I could have bonding time with the Gonzaleses, too.
  • Sponsored a 3D/2N getaway for my family at Pico De Loro in Batangas. We had some nice quality time there, too. Mom was happy about her beauty treatments – from head to toe. Haha! It feels great to make your loved ones happy.

I’d give myself the end of January to finish drafting my goals and the things I am believing God for in the coming year. By the way, what kind of dreamer are you?
