Inspired By Moana and Poppy

Finally watched Moana and Trolls and I did it on consecutive days. The parallelism between the two characters were so obvious that it left me thinking about them for days.

Both Moana and Poppy were…

#1 Daughters of the chief (and yet)

Imagine people’s expectations of them and the big shoes they are to fill in. But they didn’t allow that to dictate who they really are. Moana and Poppy had their unique way of expressing themselves and leading their tribes to the next level. They didn’t have to be contained to their fathers’ ideologies and style of doing things. They knew that pleasing people won’t build them a strong foundation in life.

#2 Courageous in their pursuit.

A rush of courage comes out especially when one really feels so deep about something. A cuddly mother bear becomes fierce and fearless when her cubs are endangered. On the contrary, when you care less about something, you just go “que sera sera” and just watch things happen. But definitely not with a person who’s burning with courage.

#3 Curious of the unknown.

There’s always this growing curiosity in them to experience the unseen and what’s beyond. Always asking questions, seeking clarity and finding a better way of doing things, they don’t settle for the obvious. They know there’s something to learn about the past, discover about the present and unlock about the future.

#4 Guided by mentors.

They were young, carefree and totally gifted. If Moana didn’t have her parents, grandmother & Maui, and for Poppy her father, it would have been a struggle to overcome such obstacles on their own. While one’s family background does not define one’s destiny, having good mentors in life can launch and accelerate you into success. If you don’t have such people now, be intentional in finding them.

#5 Optimistic about life.

Some of their actions were seen as impulsive and childish. Probably because they were seen as young and inexperienced, with nothing yet to prove. They were not taken seriously when they meant business because their joy and positivity in life were deemed flaky.

But as this outlook was tested in real life challenges, their optimism carried them through. Surprisingly, it was further than most adults in the group.

Thanks to the makers of the movie for coming up with such wonderful female characters to relate to. The movie served as a reminder for me.
